December News
Hope everyone is well and all of your ponies are fit and healthy.

I will start this month’s news with some important dates:

January 17 2016 Area 7 Points Award Lunch to be held at the Hopcroft Hotel. The afternoon promises to be a celebration of our Members’ achievements together with lots of fun with good company. We are extremely lucky to have Jayne Ross as our guest speaker. Jayne needs no introduction, having ridden and produced the Supreme Horse at RI and HOYS together with many other notable success. I am really looking forward to hearing her speak, it should be very interesting.

Please do have a look at the website for details of how to book tickets and please make sure you submit your results in, preferably in good time. Fantastic rosettes and prizes will be on offer. There will also be a raffle, so please bring along some appropriate prizes.

January 31 and February 14 Training in Indoor School at Kingsey, please see the website for more details.

February 18 Winter Show at Addington Please come along and support our Show and encourage your friends to do the same. We will have brilliant WHP courses, built by Rachel Turner and a full range of flat classes. Should you be able to give up some of your time to steward, please let Louise Gaunt know

May 1 Spring Show at Addington Our main Show of the year with plenty of RI qualifiers. Put the date in your diary and more details will follow. Please let me know should you wish to Sponsor at the Show, there are plenty of options available to suit everyone. Email meadow.brook@btinternet.com

We have been out to a couple of Winter Shows and I have seen a few of our Members out and about too. Area 6 held the first of their Winter Shows at Onley in November. Ella Georgakis, Chymme Reynolds and Phoebe Good all enjoyed a successful Show even though the wind did blow rather too much for my liking! We made a return journey to Onley to a super festive Show held by NPS 13. Again our members enjoyed good successes, notably Rosie Skier, Kitty Jewson and Phoebe Good.

I hope to see many of you out and about next year. Please do let me know your results so they can be included in my News Reports.

October News
News this month is of our members’ great results from HOYS. Just competing at HOYS is fantastic and to be placed really is a wonderful achievement. Hoping that all those lucky enough to have qualified and ridden there this year enjoyed themselves. The results I have are as follows:

I hope everyone has had a happy and successful season. Thoughts now turn to new combinations and young ponies or perhaps working on particular things during the winter months ready to shine next year. Whatever you are up to, keep warm and safe and have lots of fun. For those of you who do venture out to Winter Shows, please send me your results and let me know of any new ponies you may have.

Details of our Points Presentation Awards lunch will go up on the website as soon as details are finalised.

See you all soon.

May News
Firstly, please take time to look at the BSPS website and look under the latest News section. You will see all the proposed rule changes for next Season which are due to be discussed at the next Chairman’s Meeting, 2 June. Should you have any comments to make on these proposals, please let Louise Gaunt know in writing so that our members’ views can be expressed at this meeting. Amongst the matters up for change is the highly contentious age of Nursery Stakes riders and heights of these fences, I urge you all to have a look and comment as you see fit.

Our members have been very busy over the last month or so and have had lots of great results. Our ponies have been out and about at BE events so I have been unable to pick up many results from seeing members at Shows. Social Media is great to help me stay in touch, but it would be even better if members could drop me an email with their results – please….. Here are some results that I am aware of: Natasha Smith on Wealdstone Duke have had a good run of form on RI M&M qualifiers, finishing 4th at NPS Spring Festival and 2nd at Derbyshire Festival. Bea Wheeler gained her 2nd RI NS ticket, this time on Tina Glitters at BSPS Area 14. Harry Gaunt won the RI Int WHP with Rob and went Reserve Champion. This latter result was extremely impressive as Harry and mother (Louise) had been at Alice Barnes’ 21st party only the night before – Merseyside to Sussex!!

Our Area Show, held at the wonderful venue of Addington, was a great success. Lucy Burton had a wonderful day riding Willoway Tia Maria to win the Blue Riband 143 WHP and 143 RI WHP Classes and took the Championship. Rosie Skier 2nd Blue Riband Int WHP and 3rd RI Int WHP with Haremeare Jimmy Mac. Rosie also won the RI LW Working Hunter Class on Uroko. Hermione Gee was 2nd RI Int WHP on Zitro. Aimee White was 4th on Lisnadrisha Tic-Tac in RI 153 WHP. Kitty Jewson took 3rd place in the 2’ Training Stakes on Coutland JP Benjamin. Phoebe Good riding Winneydene Sandpiper took a well deserved 3rd place in the Tiny Tots WHP. Chloe Tyler took 4th place in the 2’6 Training stakes with India Wheeler on Lookout Zoltan coming 5th in that Class and later claiming 4th in the 143 Nov Her WHP. Katie Bettison finished 6th in the Nov Her 143 WHP Class. Chymme Reynolds took 5th in the Nov 133 WHP with In The Spotlight. Fleur Marston came 5th in the +143 Nov Her WHP with Hazelwood Ridge. Ella Georgakis won the Mixed Height Nov SHP and Blue Riband Open 122 SHP on Yerbeston Darwin and then went on to finish 3rd in RI 122 SHP. Ella also won the Blue Riband and RI FR on Barkway Precocious. The Area 7 Supremes of the Show were Lucy Burton on Willoway Tia Maria taking the Worker Section and Ella Georgakis on Barkway Precocious taking the Ridden Section.

A huge well done to all competitors and support teams who all helped to create a fabulous Show. Special thanks should also go to our wonderful sponsors who generously support our Show and of course to the Committee who spend hours organising the Show. In particular, to Louise Gaunt our Chairman for steering the Team to yet another brilliant Show with happy competitors. If anyone has any feedback following the Show, please contact our Chairman, email on our website.

Our members had a great time at RWHS with Louise Gaunt’s Rob, ably ridden by Rory Gilsenan finishing 2nd in the LW Working Hunter and Rosie Skier on Uroko claiming 3rd place in this Class. Harry Gaunt then had an equally wonderful round in the Int WHP with Rob on the Sunday to finish 2nd this time to Rosie Skier riding Haremeare Jimmy Mac who won and took their RI ticket. Another member claiming their RI ticket was Maddie Plumb riding Stoak Tanya, a great 3rd place in the Nursery Stakes followed by a 5th place in the 133 WHP class. Lucy Burton continued her great form, finishing 3rd in the 143 WHP Class. Aimee White had a good 6th place in the +143 Heritage WHP Class with Lisnadrisha Tic-Tac and Rosie Skier maintained her good form all week with a 2nd place on Lowhouse Monarch in the 143 Heritage WHP Class. Ella Georgakis had another great result with Yerbeston Darwin, finishing 3rd in the 122 SHP Class, a great result in their first Open Season together. Wishing all our members a great month’s riding – have fun.

April News

Many of our members had a successful time at the Winter Championships. Sadly we didn’t go this year so missed out on all the Easter Eggs but at least I managed to go to our local Point to Point for a change.

I have managed to glean various results from social media and the full listings are available on the BSPS website. I am not listing all results and apologies to those that I have missed off. I know the Reynolds Family had a successful Show with good placings for both Chymme on Mr Spongebob and Chrystia on Birchgrove Ross. The Wheeler Family had a busy Show with all 3 girls competing. I think Bea was probably the busiest on Daukester Panache with great results all week, including winning the RI NS and the Winter Winners NS. Ella picked up her Burghley qualification on Pebbly Housemartyn together with a 2nd in the RI 153 WHP. Indie also jumped some good rounds on her new ride, Lookout Zoltan.

Hermione Gee continued her winning form on Zitro, winning the Intermediate Gold Cup. Lucy Burton had some good placings with Willoway Tia Maria in the 143 WHP Classes as did Romy Skinner on Noble Cuzco in the Intermediate WHP Classes. Haremeare Jimmy Mac also proved to be very consistent with Rosie Skier, also securing good placings in the Intermediate WHP Classes. Aimee White had some really good results with her novice Connemara pony, Lisnadrisha Tic-Tac including 2nd in the Winter Heritage excl 143 WHP. Kitty Jewson rode her novice pony Llanai Tobias with a good place in the Winter Winners 122 Her WHP Class. The Georgakis Family had a very relaxed Show, only taking their Yerbeston Darwin who Ella rode into 3 top 3 places in First Pony SHT and Open 122 SHP. Again, apologies if I have missed you off – all you have to do is send me an email to news@bspsarea7.co.uk so I can include your news next month!!

Tuffy Stockley’s great season continues with more great results at PUK Championships. 1st and Champion Amateur and 2nd Kingsford Final and then gained RI qualification with a win in the Intermediates. Another who continues their good start to the Season is Ella Georgakis and Barkway Precocious, winning the RI SP FR and Prem League FR and Mini Champ at Area 16 and then took Reserve Champion of Show.

Maddie Bennet riding Rotherwood Motivator had a good win at Area 15a, claiming their RI ticket.

Bea Wheeler continues her winning ways with Daukester Panache, winning the RI NS at both Hereford Marches and Area 15 where they also went Mini Champion. Harry Gaunt and Rob were 3rd Int WHP and Rosie Skier with Haremeare Jimmy Mac 2nd in this Class. At the same Show, Ella Wheeler on Pebbly Housemartyn 2nd in the Mixed Height Open WHP with Indie Wheeler 4th in the Mixed Height Novice WHP with Lookout Zoltan.

Rosie then went one better the next day qualifying Hazelrock Sparkle for the Heritage WHP at the Royal International.

Enjoy the Spring weather and look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our Spring Show, 3rd May at Addington.

March News
Hope everyone is looking forward to a busy Spring and Summer showing. We have already had 3 RI Qualifying Shows and 2 of our Members have bagged their qualifications. Well done to Ella Georgakis and Barkway Precocious who won the SP FR Class at Hartpury and then went on to take the Mini Championship. Also, congratulations to Hermione Gee riding Zitro who won the Int WHP at Area 6 – this more than made up for the breakdown on route to Hartpury!!! .  !!! Tuffy Stockley has also had a great start to the Season with her Fell stallion, Murthwaite Oliver they won and qualified RIHS Amateur at Keysoe and won and went Champion RIHS PP Ridden M&M at Area 17.

Preparations are in full swing for our Spring Show which will be held at Addington on May 3rd and we look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. We are still looking for sponsorship and should you feel able to sponsor a Class for only £25, please do let our Chairman know on the following email chairman@bspsarea7.co.uk. Good Luck to all over the next month.

 February News
I hope you have all had a look at the new website, thank you to our Chairman for creating such a great website which is full of useful information. Please go and have a look and do send in your photographs so they can be added to the Gallery. Photos should be sent to secretary@bspsarea7.co.uk We had a successful Committee Meeting in January and thank Denise Reynolds for her hospitality. One point that was discussed was the amount of work the Committee has to put into collating all the Points at the end of the year. A Points sheet can be downloaded from the website and if each member kept a record of the results for each pony over the year and recorded these on the Sheet to be submitted, it would make the whole process much easier. A separate Sheet should be submitted for each Section and Pony/Rider. The great BSPS Area 7 joggers that were won at the Points Awards are also available to purchase. For more information, please email secretary@bspsarea7.co.uk.  They have been a great success for those people that have them. If any Members can help Steward at our Spring Show or know of anyone who can help, please let Rose Marston know, stewards@bspsarea7.co.uk . This is a very important role to keep our Show running smoothly and efficiently, please help if you can. Alternatively, if you cannot help with your time how about sponsoring a Class or Section. Classes can be sponsored for only £25. Please contact Louise Gaunt if you feel you can sponsor, chairman@bspsarea7.co.uk. News has been thin on the ground as we are so early in the year. I know that Rosie Skier and her Team have had some good placings and wins at Area 17, NPS 7 and Keysoe Valentines Show. Well done to Rosie, Chloe Tyler and Kitty Jewson. I have also seen Fleur Marston with her pony Hazelwood Ridge who has had some good results at Area 17 and NPS 7. We have just held our Winter Show at Addington and were blessed with a cold and sunny start but this deteriorated after lunch to a wet and windy afternoon. Well done to all those competitors who took part and a huge thank you to the organising team, stewards, judges and course builders. Many Area 7 members were there and had some excellent results. Apologies if I have missed anybody off.

Sadly the Training with Lou Bell on 30 March has had to be postponed as Lou is competing in Barcelona. We do have a Flat clinic with Jo Bates on 22 March to be held at Notley Tythe Barn near Thame (by kind permission of Mr & Mrs N Reynolds), please see the website for details. Bookings need to be made by 7 March to secure your place and the training is subsidised for Area 7 Members. Contact training@bspsarea7.co.uk for more information.

Happy riding everyone and please let me have your results so I can include them in the News Review, news@bspsarea7.co.uk.

Apologies if I have missed anyone out - I have been gleaning results from social media.

We held a successful Area Show at Bicester and Finmere, I understand that lots of our members attended her with success. I was unable to attend as we were on holiday so I can only report the results posted on our FB by our Chairman. Chrystia Reynolds won the Area Supreme and Chymme Reynolds, Fleur Marston, Kitty Jewson and Sophie Bettison also won classes.
Our Members had a very successful time at the Summer Champs with, in particular, Kitty Jewson and Trigger (Maesyberwyn Waxing Corn) taking home a number of sashes. They won the Heritage NS, Restricted Her 122 WHP and were Mini Heritage Champion and Restricted Champion and they also won the Novice Nursery Stakes and Red Division Her 122 WHP. To top it all Kitty and Trigger won a FLOWER SASH. Huge Congratulations Kitty in being SUPREME HERITAGE WHP 2014. Kitty was also 3rd in the Pretty Polly ONS with her other pony, Courtland JP Benjamin.

Ella Georgakis had a great week with super placings, including 1st Blue Div SPFR and 1st HOYS SPFR and Mini Champion with the icing on the cake being SUPREME MINI SP CHAMPION and Ella getting a FLOWER SASH with Barkway Precocious. I did see Ella’s other pony, Yerbeston Darwin, pictured wearing a sash in the Lead Rein of Hunter Type but I am not sure which class they won.

Till Hankey, riding the Georgakis Family’s Parkvale Vanilla won her first HOYS ticket in the LRSP class

May News

Hi everyone. I would like to start this month’s news with a big thank you to our Area Chairman, Louise Gaunt and her terrific Team who ran such an amazing Show at Addington. The whole Team was under a lot of pressure due to the huge number of entries received on the day. The fact that so many people want to attend our Area Show reflects the hard work that is put into creating a competitive and enjoyable day. Many thanks Louise and Team.
We had some excellent results from our Members at our Show. The list would go on forever if I were to detail all placed partnerships so I am just going to list winners and champions. Should you wish to look at the results, they are available to download via the Area website.

Chymme Reynolds was 8th in Winter Winners NS and 5th Novice 133 Gold Cup on Mr Spongebob and won the PP RIHS Her FR on Chetwynd Darwin. A great Hickstead ticket, well done Chymme.

April News
Area 7 members have had another busy month with some more lucky combinations claiming their RI tickets. Results that I am aware of are as follows:

I received a lovely email from Maddie Bennett’s Grandmother informing me that Maddie won the Premier league class and also qualified for RIHS when she won the PP SHP class with her pony, Lyndeth Fairy Tale at the Midshires Area 17 show, this was their first attempt this year and they also went on to win the PP Championship!

Frazer Atherden won the large M&M WHP at NPS Area 13 to claim his RI ticket and our own Tynwydd Good Friday won the 133cm section, passing the ticket down the line as she had previously qualified.

Kitty Jewson has qualified her pony Courtland JP Benjamin for the RI Nursery Stakes by winning at Hereford Marches and at that same show, Ella Georgakis riding Yerbeston Darwin collected her third RI ticket, winning the LRSHT. Ella Wheeler so nearly made it a hatrick for Area 7 finishing 2nd in the 143 WHP on Stambrook Magnifico.

Our members also had a fabulous day at Area 15 where Ella Wheeler won both the 153 and 143 WHP Classes, taking both RI tickets and then her 143 pony, Stambrook Magnifico, went on to be Champion, very well ridden by Ella’s sister, India with Ella standing Reserve on Pebbly Housemartyn. Rosie Skier also won the Intermediate WH Class on Eleri Guy’s Westside Ronnie to claim the RI ticket.

The training session at Quainton Stud was very well attended and I know that those people I spoke to really enjoyed both the flat and jumping sessions. Thank you to Denise Reynolds for organizing this excellent day’s training.

By the time you read this, the Winter Championships will be long forgotten – do let me know your results from this Show. Our Spring Festival will also have taken place and let’s hope we have been blessed with good weather and entries.

Please keep the results coming in and happy showing.

March News
Finally the rain has stopped and I even saw some T-shirts out at Hartpury on 9 March where Area 7 members had a successful Show – more details to follow.

Our Area Winter Show was held at Addington and I would like to thank the whole team who ran such a successful Show in fairly challenging weather conditions. The wind certainly blew but at least the rain stayed away for the majority of the day. We had excellent entries and some quality ponies and horses were on show.

Kitty Jewson opened her 2014 Season on Maesbyrn Waxing Corn by winning the Novice Nursery Stakes and finishing Reserve Mini WHP Champion. Kitty then finished 2nd in both the Open Nursey Stakes and the 133 Novice M&M WHP on Courtland JP Benjamin. Lily Good riding Tynwydd Good Friday (Smartie) won the Novice 133 WHP, Hermione Gee riding Zitro won the Novice Intermediate WH and then took the Novice Championship. Bea Wheeler on Dykebeck Wild Hazlenut (Nutty) won the small Zenith section, her big sister Ella riding Stambrook Magnifico won the middle section and keeping it in the family, Ella took the large section on Pebbly House Martyn.

Ella Georgakis has had a great month riding Barkway Precocious winning the SP First Ridden class at Area 10’s Winter Show and then continued their winning run, claiming the first RI qualifier at Hartpury on March 9. Other Area 7 members who picked up their RI tickets where Clemmie Proud on Noble Gold Digga who won the 143cm WHP over a very tough course. Rosie Skier riding Lowhouses Monarch claimed their RI ticket and went on to be M&M WHP Champion. Fantastic results. Bea Wheeler was riding in her first RI NS and had a super clear on Nutty to finish 2nd closely followed by Lily Good in 3rd on Smartie.

Hermione Gee had a great day at Hartpury, winning the Open/Restricted Intermediate WHP on Zitro and taking the Restricted Championship. They also finished 2nd in their first RI qualifier together.

Another good weekend at Area 6 and Area 17 for our members. Ella Georgakis won the M&M LR and qualified for RI. Bea Wheeler came close again in the NS and Rosie Skier finished 2nd in the Int WH on Carnival Chaos. I know other members were also at Onley and sorry if I haven’t reported on your successes.

Please can I encourage all members to let me have their results so I can add them to our news section. Otherwise it may end up being very WHP biased.

We have some training date booked. Due entirely to the success of last year's Summer Shows, we are able to offer concessions to our members.....

Monday April 7th at Quainton Stud
Anthony Perkins is taking the flat sessions. Anthony, who rode to Advance Eventing level, is a prolific starred judge in all categories and is really popular up and down the country.

Mandy McGlynn, who holds the most enviable record as a show jumping trailer and who, herself, competed in the Horse Workers with exceptional results, is taking the jumping sessions.

Costs for BSPS Area 7 Members (2014) are £15 for one session and £20 for 2 sessions. If you are not a current Member, you are still most welcome to attend at the cost of £25 per session, or £40 for 2 sessions Please email training@bspsarea7.co.uk to book your space or for further information.
Whilst on the subject of training and reducing costs, BSPS Area 7 are awarding "The Arthur Illsley" bursary (hopefully each year) in the form of free show entries for 2 ponies (not including RIHS qualifiers) and free training for the same. Please see the website for more details. Please send your application, asap, in the form of a letter, to chairman@bspsarea7.co.uk
Slightly later this year, we will be running regular Young Judges' training sessions. These are open to all – non-members included. This is a brilliant competition run at the Championship Show to encourage our judges of the future to hone their skills at an earlier age than would otherwise be possible. Please keep an eye on the website for more details of dates etc but hopefully you will register your interest by sending an email to training@bspsarea7.co.uk
The schedule for our Spring Show is nearly ready - we have re-vamped the schedule to include a "Gold Cup" competition, Tiny Tots WHP, Bright Stars, Olympia Senior First Round qualifier along with our usual RI qualifiers and have included more Novice classes too this year.

February News

Hi Everyone, I hope you are all surviving the wind and rain. I am certainly getting rather bored of all the mud and our ponies are coming out just a little bit fresh!!

Unfortunately we start with some sad news. I am sure you are aware that the founder of our Area, Arthur Illsley passed earlier this month. Arthur's work for the BSPS and especially for the Area, was tireless. Arthur made the Vauxhall Arena at the Champs his own and his support and enthusiasm over the years has been immense. Our thoughts are with his wife, Judith, children, Ruth, Tom and Jane and all grandchildren.

On a personal note I have to mention our wonderful pony Brynoffa Sophie who we sadly lost this month. She gave so much to many young riders and my daughter, Phoebe, will never forget those first clear rounds and rosettes at the Summer Champs with “Super Sophie”.

I have managed to glean the following results from people but please remember to forward your results to me so that they can be incorporated into the News Review.
Area 6 held their Winter Show on 26th January, Ella Georgakis had a great Show; 1st Heritage Lead Rein and Mini Champion on Hackamore Tarja Brown and 1st on Waxwing Poppycorn in First Pony of Hunter Type and Reserve Mini Champion.
Bea Wheeler on Dykebeck Wild Hazlenut (Nutty), was 2nd Restricted Open Nursery Stakes, 2nd Novice Heritage 133cm and 1st Restricted and 2nd Open Heritage 133 WHP. A great first Show for Bea and Nutty.

Ella Wheeler was 3rd in Restricted Open 153cm WHP on her new ride Pebbly House Martyn, a very good result considering their lorry had a mechanical problem on route meaning that they only arrived at the show ground as the Course was being walked!

Ella Georgakis also competed at Barleyfields on 2nd February and duly won on Waxwing Poppycorn in First Pony of Hunter Type and was 3rd Heritage Lead Rein on Hackamore Tarja Brown

NPS Area 7 held the first RI M&M WHP qualifier of the year. Aimee Gould and Gellihaf Ronaldo won the 143cm class and went Champion over a very tough course. There was a really good write up about this show including a great picture of Aimee in Horse and Hound. Our pony Tynwydd Good Friday jumped a lovely round with a pole in the 133cm class – we were delighted as this was Lily’s first RI track with her.

Bea Wheeler and Nutty also had some excellent results at NPS 7. Rosie Skier had a busy Show too notably; Haremere Jimmy Mac winning the intermediate/mixed height whp.
